PIANGO MEETING POSTPONED
The PIANGO Coordinating Committee and Working Group Conveners' meeting planned for the 15th to the 17th of April was postponed. A new date is yet to be set for this meeting. The meeting was called off to allow for more time for the formal registration of PIANGO in Fiji. The meeting is to coincide with the openning of the PIANGO Secretariat in Nadi, Fiji.
Topics to be discussed in this meeting will include, among other issues, the consideration of the roles and responsibilities of Coordinating Committee, the Working Groups, National Liaison Units (NLUs or National NGO Umbrella bodies), and the role of the Secretariat. Issues surrounding the next PIANGO Council meeting will also be discussed.
PIANGO TRUSTEES
As a requirement for the incorporation of PIANGO under the provisions of Fiji's Charitable Trusts Act, the following have been nominated and endorsed by the Coordinating Committee of PIANGO as PIANGO Trustees:
- Gabriel Tetiarahi (Chairman, PIANGO)
- Hana Tukukino (Coordinating Committee, PIANGO),
- Bill Armstrong (Coordinating Committee, PIANGO),
- Senator Paula Sotutu (Chairman, FCOSS)
Latest development suggests that the issue of intended registration of PIANGO in Fiji will be submitted to the Cabinet for consideration and approval.

RAPANUI JOINS INDIGENOUS RIGHTS WORKING GROUP
Rapa Keave Hugo Chavez is the designated Rapa Nui representative on the PIANGO Indigenous Rights Working Group. Mr. Chavez lives in Tahiti and is currently in New York City where he is trying to contact the United Nations Human Rights Commission office about issues in Rapanui. He reports that the plight of his people on Rapa Nui is especially difficult because of their lack of resources, their remoteness and colonial coercive assimilation and economic dependency promoted by the Chile government.
Mr. Chavez is currently in New York but he can be contacted at:
